Last month the team spent days looking at new Vacation spots in Jamaica. It never cease to amaze me…..the beauty of our little island and the product we offer the world. It doesn’t matter how many places you have been to in Jamaica, there is always something new to see, somewhere unknown to visit.
There is one thing no one can contest, and that is despite our economic climate we have not “water dung” compromise on the product that we are offering our tourists. Hence the reason why Jamaica is still on the lips of many worldwide.
Over the years there have been a drastic increase in the number of local travellers which has boost our tourism industry especially on major holiday weekend. last Easter weekend we saw a decrease not in the number of persons enquiring about rates, but those who actually decided to travel. For many this year, they have been downgrading from all inclusive options to villas or a bed and breakfast property.
While hotel still offers discounts -rates are usually priced in US dollars- the conversion from US dollars to Jamaica Dollars was a major deterring factor due to high rate of exchange. This of course affected hotels has many such as Sunset Resorts and Jewel Dunn’s River had to offer discounted rates to reach maximum occupancy.
Summer rates are currently being released and already it is evident that hotels have recognized the problem as some have issued rates as low as US$177 double per night.
